The first photos were taken from my room at the Atlantis. The second photo was taken from my Peppermill room in Reno. You can see the Atlantis Hotel & Casino in the distance. To do the photos justice, you really need to click to View Larger. To do the sunrises justice you need to have been there.
I've done craft projects since my childhood, starting with embroidery & those potholders made from loops. Now I have a basement studio packed to the rafters with categorized tools and supplies.
When I stopped working a few years ago I went back to my adolescent
dream of being a full-time writer. Sometimes I suspect that art is an avoidance technique for my writing. I feel both joy and pressure trying
to make up for lost time. I am still working on my first
novel, "Cowbird Lodge, Nevada." I keep rewriting it to each new level
of ability.
In my tale of personal risk told in the language of the Nevada casinos
and deserts, my main character, Rebecca "Becky" Richfield, retreats in
solitude to her Grandfather Pershing's mountain home after her
card-counting partner marries her sister. When that sister dies twenty
years later, Becky comes out of seclusion to mentor her sister's
twenty-year old adopted daughter. Together they struggle to beat the
odds in and out of the casinos as they uncover the genetic and
psychological history they seem doomed to repeat.
